15-month-old Found Dead in Car After Relative Forgets to Drop Off at Daycare in Florida
Florida authorities are trying to obtain additional information after a 15-month-old baby was discovered dead in a car, having been left there by a relative who “forgot the child was present.”
Deputies from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to South Sumter Middle School in Webster about 4:18 p.m. on Nov. 1, according to a news release.
Deputies arrived to find the small youngster deceased, according to the announcement. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, authorities launched an inquiry to determine what had occurred.
Deputies determined that the child had been “unintentionally left unattended” in the school’s parking lot. The child was supposedly scheduled to be dropped off at daycare.
However, the relative who dropped off the kid allegedly forgot the youngster was present and entered the school.
The sheriff’s office stated, “The child was present with a family member and was supposed to be dropped off at daycare. However, the family member forgot the child was there and went to school.”
Later that day, the toddler was discovered dead inside the automobile. The temperature had reached 86 degrees Fahrenheit in the area that day.
Deputies described the scenario as “tragic,” and said in a press release that their hearts go out to the child’s family.
The incident occurred in Webster, approximately 50 miles west of Orlando. The child’s identity was not published. It was also unclear whether the relative who forgot the baby would face charges for the child’s death.
