A 16-year-old male with numerous gunshot wounds was discovered by police lying in the roadway near the curb in the 900 block of N. Second St. in Belleville Saturday evening. Belleville Police Capt. Todd Keilbach stated that at 6:51 p.m., the police department received a call reporting the gunshot incident.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old male victim,” he told reporters. Officers administered first aid to the subject before MedStar EMS arrived. According to Keilbach, the youngster was transported to a St. Louis hospital for emergency treatment.

Officers swiftly secured the location and launched an investigation.

“The initial investigation suggests that the victim was involved in an altercation over narcotics with two other male suspects just before the shooting,” Kielbach told reporters.

Witnesses at the scene identified the culprits as two Black males in their teens wearing black attire, according to Keilbach. They were last seen fleeing toward West H Street, one on foot and the other on a bicycle, he claimed.

The victim’s identity has not been revealed.

Keilbach stated that the investigation is ongoing, and authorities are following up on leads. The suspects had not been found as of Sunday afternoon.
