A 21-year-old pregnant lady on her way to go fishing was killed in a solo vehicle crash Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Just before 5:15 a.m., authorities went to a crash on Highway 4 between Tracy Boulevard and Whiskey Slough, some 20 minutes west of Stockton.

Officers discovered at the scene that a vehicle had left the road and entered the water on the north side of the road. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit and wave down responding paramedics and CHP police.

DART Sacramento was summoned to the location because first responders were unable to approach or see the vehicle from the road.

According to the CHP, the driver’s passenger, a 21-year-old woman who was six months pregnant, died after becoming stuck in the vehicle. Officers say the two were on their way to go fishing on Saturday.

CHP police believe speed had a role in the incident, but the cause is still being investigated.

Due to the incident, one-way traffic management was implemented. That traffic has now been released.

DART discovered a second vehicle in the water while searching for the one involved in Saturday’s incident. Officers stated that the vehicle was not involved in the crash, but they are investigating how it got there.
