Five people were killed, including the attacker, and three were hurt when shots were fired at a birthday party in northern Kentucky early Saturday morning.

Around 3 a.m., police were called to a home in Florence several times to report an active shooter.

Police chief Jeff Mallery of Florence said at a news conference Saturday afternoon that shots were still being fired when they arrived and there were two victims in front of the house.

Four people were declared dead at the scene, and three others were taken to a nearby hospital and are now in stable condition. According to the cops, they should get better completely.

“This is something we’ve never dealt with before.” “I know this has happened all over the country, but this is the first time it’s happened in Florence,” Mallery said. “It makes me feel a lot.”

Five people were killed: Delaney Eary (19 years old), Shane Miller (20 years old), Hayden Rybicki (20 years old), and Melissa Parrett (44 years old).

Chase Garvey, who is 21 years old, was recognized as the shooter.

The event took place at a birthday party for Parrett’s 21-year-old son.

Mallery said that people at the party knew the suspect and told police who he was. Why the person did what they did is still being looked into.

He said, “I don’t think he was invited to the party, but there is a relationship.” The initial investigation shows that “he just showed up.”

Police say Garvey drove away from the scene of the crime. Police tried to stop him for speeding, but he kept going, which led to a chase. Mallery said that the cops think Garvey killed himself while driving and then went off the road into a ditch.

The suspect had shot himself, which is how police found him. Police said he was taken to a nearby hospital and declared dead there.

The Florence Police Department said that the suspect acted alone after an initial probe. The Florence police and deputies from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office both answered last night, but the Boone County Sheriff’s Office is not conducting a separate investigation.

About 12 miles southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio, is Florence.
