57-Year-Old Woman Identified as Victim in Fatal Incident at O’Hare Airport Baggage Conveyor Belt

The woman who died Thursday at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport after getting “entangled” in the baggage conveyor belt system has been named. She is 57 years old and from North Carolina.

The woman was named by Virginia Christine Vinton, 57, of North Carolina, to the Cook County Medical Examiner on Friday.

The Chicago Fire Department said the accident happened early Thursday morning near O’Hare’s Terminal Five. A lot of foreign airlines fly into Terminal 5. Delta Airlines is one of them.

Police say that at 2:27 a.m., security video captured a woman entering a restricted area of the Terminal that wasn’t being used.

The woman, who was not responding, was found around 7:30 a.m., and the Chicago Fire Department was called to the scene.

At first, CFD officials said the call said someone was stuck in Terminal 5 machinery. Fire officials in Chicago later said that the woman got “entangled” in the system of belts that move luggage.

Police said the woman was declared dead at the scene.

Chicago cops said that they were looking into a death.

NBC Chicago was told by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration that they were not involved in the death case. They said that the woman who died was a member of the public and not an employee or contracted employee of the airport or an airline.
