Kaitlin Armstrong was found guilty in November of killing professional rider Anna Moriah “Mo” Wilson in an East Austin home in May 2022. She was told by the court to pay $15 million to the Wilson family.
Karen and Eric Wilson, Wilson’s parents, sued Armstrong last month for wrongful death, according to FOX 7 in Austin. They are asking more than $1 million in damages.
Wilson was shot three times in the head and once in the heart by Armstrong after she went on a date with Armstrong’s on-again, off-again boyfriend.
Armstrong, 37, was charged with killing Wilson, 25, in a jealous rage just minutes after dropping off Armstrong at a friend’s apartment in Austin, Texas, where Wilson was living while in Texas for a race.
The prosecutors said Armstrong tracked Wilson’s location using the Strava app, which is a famous one for runners and cyclists that shows their routes. They also said Armstrong could log into Strickland’s Apple and Gmail accounts and read his texts and emails.
Armstrong was found guilty of murder and given a 90-year jail sentence. After 30 years in jail, she will be able to get out on parole.
The station got court records that show Wilson’s parents were given a default ruling when Armstrong didn’t show up to a hearing on June 17. Not only that, but she also didn’t answer the first complaint.
Armstrong was finally told to pay $15 million. Of that amount, $5 million was to be given to both of Wilson’s parents, and the other $5 million was to be used as “exemplary damages” that “the Court determines sufficient to deter the same or similar actions” by Armstrong in the future.
As part of the order, the Court said Wilson’s parents could also get back 8.5% per year in interest from Armstrong after the judgment, plus all taxable court costs.
