A Guy From Louisiana Got Seven Years in Prison for Trying to Bring Fentanyl Into Mississippi
BILOXI, Miss. — A man from Covington, Louisiana, was given 84 months in prison for planning to have fentanyl with the purpose of selling it across state lines.
The 23-year-old Santana Phillipe Elzy was given his term on Thursday in the U.S. District Court in Gulfport.
The case began on August 29, 2023, according to court records. A written report of drug trafficking at the Motel 6 in Bay St. Louis was followed up on by deputies from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Agents watched as a red Toyota Camry pulled up to the motel to pick up two people they thought were selling drugs. Agents followed the car across state lines after it left. The people inside the car were later named as:
Christopher Fricke
Kolby Sims
Emma Stoute
Dakari Sykes
After that, agents saw the four of them buy drugs from Elzy in a Louisiana Wal-Mart parking lot. After the deal was done, the Camry was tracked back into Mississippi, where it was stopped and searched. About 1,000 pills with fentanyl in them were found, and it was proven that Elzy sold them to the group so they could be given out all over South Mississippi.
Elzy admitted to conspiring to have a controlled substance with the plan to sell it on March 4, 2024.
The case was brought by Assistant U.S. Attorney Erica Rose.
