Two Zion Women Arrested for Stealing $1,400 in Children’s Clothes from Oak Brook Macy’s, Spark Police Chase
OAK BROOK, Ill. — There are felony charges against two women who are said to have stolen from a department store in the west suburbs and then led police on a high-speed chase.
One count of burglary and one count of store theft have been brought against Asia Wallace, 32, and Kayshanda Outlaw, 24. Both women live in Zion. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin says Outlaw is also being charged with aggravated fleeing and escaping a police officer.
Police say the charges are related to something that happened at a Macy’s in Oakbrook Center on Saturday afternoon.
Police say they were first called to the department store just after 3:30 p.m. because of a report of a theft in progress.
prosecutors say Wallace and Outlaw chose a few items of children’s clothes while they were in the store and then left without paying for them.
Prosecutors say Wallace stole things worth about $625.50 and Outlaw stole things worth about $839.15.
In a silver Hyundai Sonata driven by Outlaw, the two women are said to have tried to leave the scene of the crime after leaving the store.
As the two people allegedly tried to get away, an Oak Brook police officer tried to stop them from leaving the store’s parking lot, but Outlaw reportedly sped off and hit the officer’s car as she drove toward the exit.
As soon as they left the parking lot, police started chasing them north on Route 83. Prosecutors say that after leaving Route 83, the chase continued east on Butterfield Road until Outlaw lost control of the car and crashed into another car at the corner of Butterfield Road and Prospect Avenue.
After the accident, the driver of the car that was involved was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The cops say that Outlaw went as fast as 90 mph while they were chasing him.
According to prosecutors, after the car accident, both women got out and ran, but they were found minutes later by police.
“This is another case of criminals being mistaken in thinking that there are no consequences for their crimes when they run away from the police,” Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis said in a news release on Monday.
The court turned down the state’s request to hold the two women before their hearing on Sunday.
The hearing for both women is set for July 29.
