A 10-year-old Child Died After Being Overheated on South Mountain
A 10-year-old kid died after being rescued from South Mountain in Phoenix on Tuesday.
Around 2 p.m., fire firefighters were dispatched to the Mormon Trailhead near 24th Street and Baseline when the kid became overheated.
Firefighters said they discovered the youngster and his family approximately a mile from the trailhead.
Our Arizona Family News helicopter captured video of firemen performing chest compressions on the youngster on the trail.
Crews placed the victim in a basket, and a Phoenix Fire Department chopper pilot took him down the mountain.
He was then placed into an ambulance and sent to the hospital, where he eventually died.
According to firefighters, the youngster had been on the trail for several hours, possibly since mid-morning, before personnel were contacted.
According to Phoenix Fire, the youngster and his family appear to be from outside of town.
On Tuesday, the high temperature in Phoenix was expected to reach 113 degrees. However, the National Weather Service issued no severe heat watches or warnings.
“We have a lot of wonderful hiking trails here in Phoenix, and we want people to be encouraged to use them early in the morning or late in the evening. Please avoid the sun at all costs. Seek cover, remain hydrated, and limit your sun exposure as much as possible, advised Phoenix Fire Capt. Shaun Dubios.
