Two ‘Dangerous’ Murder Suspects Get Out of Mississippi Jail by Climbing Through the Ceiling: Police
Two murder suspects got out of a Mississippi jail early Friday morning, July 5, and police are looking for them.
In a Facebook post, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department said that around 2:20 a.m. local time, Tyrekennel Collins, 24, and Dezarrious Johnson, 18, got away from the Claiborne County Detention Center.
Collins was held for Copiah County and is said to be a black man.He was being held for Jefferson County. Johnson was a black man from Natchez.
Later, the sheriff’s office said that Johnson “has a bad limp” because his right leg was hurt “during the escape.”
“These suspects are thought to be dangerous.” “The government wants everyone to take the necessary safety measures,” police said. “The safety of the public is our highest priority, and we appreciate the community’s cooperation in this matter.”
According to WAPT, cameras got Johnson and Collins, who had both been charged with murder before, climbing through the ceiling and hiding behind an outside wall.
A deputy chief named Christy Sykes told NBC News that the suspects also used bedsheets to get to the ground.
A suspect was seen early Friday morning on China Grove Road while police were searching, Goods told WAPT.
Officials in Jefferson County, Tennessee, said, “When someone is in jail on murder charges, you get them caught as soon as possible because we don’t want them to go out and hurt more people.”
Sykes told NBC News that prisoners getting out of jail is a constant problem.
“It’s been a problem,” Sykes said. “We’re working closely with the board of supervisors to get this taken care of as soon as possible.”
WJTV reported at the time that Collins was first arrested in October 2023 for reportedly killing his cousin who was 46 years old. Killing someone and serious violence are the charges against Johnson. In October 2022, he was charged with killing one person and hurting two others. The Associated Press says that his hearing is set for October 15.
WAPT reports that the suspects are also being looked for by the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the U.S. Marshals, and police from Claiborne County and the nearby counties of Warren, Jefferson, and Adams.
Anyone with knowledge about where either of the prisoners is should call the police right away. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation wants people who see the suspects to stay away from them. They should call 911 or the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office at (601) 437-5161 instead.
