Vigilante Justice Suspect Confronted After Woman’s Body Discovered in Sleeping Bag on Street
Officers in New York City beat up a parolee on Monday after they found out he threw the body of a young woman into a pile of trash on the street.
Chad Irish, 55, was charged with concealing a human corpse after detectives questioned him about the death of Yazmeen Williams, 31. This was revealed by the New York Police Department on Tuesday morning. Besides murder, he was charged with illegal possession of a weapon and menacing, but police said those charges had nothing to do with Williams’ death.
Around 5 p.m. Friday, Williams’ body was discovered in front of a building on E. 27th Street, stuffed into a sleeping bag, sitting on top of a dolly, and surrounded by black trash bags. From what the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office says, she died from a gunshot wound to the head. A red strap held the dolly to the wall of the scaffolding.
Police got a hold of surveillance video that showed a man in a motorized wheelchair dragging her body to that spot. A spokesperson for the NYPD could not say for sure if that person fit Irish’s description.
Friends of Williams told CBS New York that she was friends with a man who lived close by and used a wheelchair.
Fox 5 reported that Williams’ family is sure the young woman knew who killed her.
Police say a “disorderly crowd gathered and became irate” when the wheelchair-bound Irish was arrested and put on a gurney around 4 p.m. Monday near E. 27th Street and Second Avenue.
He was taken to the hospital and is in good health now. Irish has not been charged with killing Williams because the probe is still going on.
The police and EMTs tried to keep the crowd away. Some people punched Irish and people who begged the crowd to kill him and tried to rip his clothes off. Before he was put into an ambulance, the man could be heard pleading his innocence.
Police had two addresses for Irish: one in the Bronx and one at the Nathan Straus Houses, a New York City Housing Authority complex on East 28th Street not far from where Williams’ body was found.
The New York Department of Corrections says that Irish was out on parole for a robbery in the Bronx when he was caught. He has been arrested and convicted of many crimes in the past, such as attempted arson, attack, and multiple counts of robbery.
The New York Post heard from a police source that Irish had been arrested 21 times before.
Williams’ family told CBS that the 31-year-old was going to start working on Monday at the city’s Department of Housing Preservation. That office could not be reached right away for comment.
Nicole Williams, her mother, told the news source, “She was so excited to live, live her life.” “She got her job in criminal law.” She planned to become a lawyer and went to Buffalo State University.
The news source said Williams had a twin brother and a younger sister.
“She was proud of me and always looked out for me.” I love her so much and she was the best sister I could have had. “If only she could have stayed a little longer, I would have loved to grow up with her,” her younger sister said.
