A Terrible Night in Birmingham a Nightclub Shooting Kills 4 and Hurts 10
At least one gunman opened fire in a Birmingham, Alabama, bar where a birthday party was going on Saturday night, killing four people and hurting several more, according to police.
In a video message, Birmingham police spokesman Truman Fitzgerald said that at 11:08 p.m., police were called to 27th Street North because people had been shot.
On the sidewalk outside the nightclub, a man was found dead from being shot. Inside, two women were found dead, and a man who was taken to the hospital was declared dead there, Fitzgerald said.
Police said that ten more people who had been shot were being treated at UAB Hospital. The Birmingham Fire Department took some of them there, while others came in their own cars.
Police said in a statement, “At least one suspect drove by in a car and fired shots into the nightclub from the street.”
Police said there was some kind of fight at the club, but detectives are still trying to figure out if that has anything to do with the killing.
People have been asked to call the cops if they know anything about what happened.
The people who were killed were named by police on Sunday as Lerandus Anderson, 24, Stevie McGhee, 39, Markeisha Gettings, 42, and Angela Weatherspoon, 56.
McGhee was discovered dead outside of the business. The police said that Gettings and Weatherspoon died inside the house and that Anderson was declared dead at the hospital.
Federal police are also helping the Birmingham police with their investigation, the police said.
