This man, 76 years old from Kentucky, died from second-and third-degree burns he got in a motel bathroom that was at least 150 degrees Fahrenheit. His family was given over $2 million for their loss.
In the case, it was said that Alex Chronis stayed at the Econo Lodge in Erlanger, Kentucky, on November 18, 2021. When he turned on the shower the next morning, he was hit right away by very hot water that knocked him to the floor and kept burning him. The two people in the room with Chrono heard him scream and took him out of the tub.
A lawyer for Chronis’ family, Jeffrey Blankenship, told NBC News Thursday that his client had to have skin grafts because the hot shower at the hotel had caused second-and third-degree burns in deep tissue.
Chronis finally died on June 19, 2022, after being in the hospital for a few months. Because Chrono had never been married and didn’t have any kids, his niece sued the motel on his account.
According to the statements of expert witnesses, the water was at least 150 degrees Fahrenheit. Chronis’ nephew, who was at the hotel with him, took pictures of Chronis’ legs that showed badly damaged and discolored spots of skin all over them.
Chronis’ estate was given $1,271,486.60 for hospital bills, $16,058.73 for funeral costs, $250,000 for pain and suffering, and $500,000 for punitive damages in the court’s final order on July 11. The defense had 30 days to appeal.
He said that the defense said Chronis didn’t even stay at the hotel. Defense lawyers wouldn’t say anything because the case was still going on.
