Rowing Recap, Aug. 1 U.S. Secures First Olympic Medal Since 2016
The United States has won an Olympic rowing medal for the first time in eight years.
Nick Mead, Justin Best, Michael Grady, and Liam Corrigan won gold in the men’s four event on Thursday, ending the U.S.’s frustrating rowing medal drought. In the end, the American four won silver medals by 0.85 seconds, beating New Zealand to the top spot. The U.S. won gold, and Great Britain came in third, three seconds behind. The British won the world title twice, in 2022 and 2023. The American win takes the top spot in the men’s four-boat category.
The last gold medal the U.S. won at the Olympics was in the women’s eight in 2016. The country now has 90 rowing medals, which is the most in the world.
On August 1, there were a lot of prize events in the water at Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium. The double sculls and fours events got the most attention, and finals were held in both.
