SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — On August 3, Springfield police caught a woman they think stole a truck and took an elderly woman and her two children hostage.

Records show that Springfield woman Michelle Porter, 40, is charged with kidnapping in the first degree, kidnapping two children, and messing with a motor vehicle in the first degree.

Reports say that police were called to the 900 block of West Kearney Street on Saturday just after 2:30 p.m. The person who was hurt said that his truck was gone and that his dementia-stricken wife was still inside.

A short time later, the old woman was found lying on the side of the road near High Street and Golden Avenue. EMS took her to the hospital with only minor injuries.

In the 2800 block of North Oakland Avenue, police found Porter, the stolen truck, and two children who were not hers. While police were at the scene, the mother of the two children reported them stolen. Police then called the mother to help her get her children.

Porter was caught right there and taken to the Greene County Jail without bond.
