Suspicious Wife Uncovers Horrifying Folder on Husband’s Computer; Husband Admits to Having a ‘Problem’
On September 29, 2021, Utah mother Ashley Lytton found out something horrible that changed the way she felt about her marriage to husband Jason of ten years and the family they had built together.
ABC News reports that the mother of three found a secret folder in her husband’s iCloud account that contained images of child sexual abuse. Ashley had been asked by Jason earlier that day to make him a Venmo account. But soon after, he changed his mind and called in what Ashley remembered as a frantic state. This made Ashley suspicious, so he went through his computer files.
When Ashley finally called the cops, they started looking into a lot of scary claims against Jason.
The second season of Betrayal: A Father’s Secret on Hulu, which started on July 30, is now all about this single case. ABC Studios’ three-part docuseries is based on the true-crime podcast series Betrayal. It includes talks with Ashley, her 15-year-old daughter Avaya (Jason’s stepdaughter), and other people who talked about the case.
ABC News says Ashley and Jason started dating while she was being a single parent to her two kids from a previous relationship. After four years, they got married and now have a young girl together. In their hometown of Riverton, Utah, the family quickly became well-known.
In a trailer for the show, Ashley talks about the day she found the secret folder, but she has a hard time describing what she found.
She says, “I don’t think I can say it. I’m sorry.” “I need a break.”
ABC News reported that Ashley called the Riverton City cops and, with their help, got Jason to come to a Walmart parking lot in October 2021 so they could talk about something. Instead, he was put in jail.
ABC 4 Utah cites an arrest document that says police searched Jason’s iCloud account and cell phone and found more than 1,000 pictures and videos of child sexual abuse. The person who called the cops and asked to remain anonymous said the pictures they saw looked like they were of girls between the ages of 8 and 15. The statement says Jason said he “had a problem.”
Jason was charged with 100 counts of sexually exploiting a child. ABC 4 Utah reported that he was eventually found guilty of lower charges after agreeing to a plea deal. He said he was guilty of one count of sexual abuse and two counts of voyeurism.
The deal gave Jason 329 days in Salt Lake County Jail, with credit for time already served, and two years of probation with supervision, according to the news source. Besides serving his sentence, he had to go through cognitive behavioral training and a mental health evaluation. The news source also said that he had to follow the rules for Group A Sex Offenders.
ABC News says Jason was only in jail for 10 months before going back to the community in Riverton, Utah, where Ashley and her family still reside.
