The Man Who Reportedly Set Off an Explosive Device Outside the Office of the Alabama Attorney General Has Pleaded Guilty in the Case

MONTGOMERY, AL — The guy who is accused of putting an explosive device outside the office of the Alabama Attorney General earlier this year is going to plead guilty.

Kyle Calvert of Irondale’s lawyers filed a notice last week that he would be changing his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty.”

On February 26, a strange box was found in downtown Montgomery, close to where Washington Avenue and South Bainbridge Street meet. Detectives from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency found that the package had gone off over the weekend when no one was near the building.

Calvert was caught on April 10 and charged with using an explosive for bad purposes and having a dangerous device that wasn’t registered.

Calvert could spend anywhere from five to twenty years in jail without the chance of parole. He has never said in public why he allegedly put the package near the AG’s office.

There has been no meeting set for when Calvert will be sentenced.
