A Crossfit Athlete Dies in Texas While Swimming in a Race
They said that an athlete in the 2024 CrossFit Games died Thursday during a swimming event in Texas.
CrossFit Games said on social media that it was “deeply saddened” by the death. All of Thursday’s events in Fort Worth have been canceled.
It was said in a statement that CrossFit was very saddened by the death of a CrossFit Games athlete during the swimming part of Individual Event 1 at the 2024 CrossFit Games.

NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reported that the victim was named as Lazar Dukic, who is 28 years old and from Serbia. The cause of death has not been proven.
NBC News asked Fort Worth officials for word on Thursday afternoon, but they didn’t answer right away.
NBC Texas—Fort Worth said that the body was found in Marine Creek Lake by emergency workers. When the Fort Worth Fire Department got there around 8 a.m. Thursday, they were ready to look for and save people. A body was found about an hour later with the help of a boat, dive teams, and drones, according to the news source.
Mark Parker, the mayor of Fort Worth, said in a statement that grief counselors are available for anyone who needs them after the “tragic loss.”
“The tragic death of a CrossFit athlete this morning at a CrossFit Games swimming event breaks our hearts to pieces.” “Our thoughts and prayers are with the athlete’s family, friends, and the whole CrossFit community,” Parker said.
She went on, “We are very proud to be the host city for the CrossFit Games, and we will continue to work closely with CrossFit to make sure that all athletes, spectators, and visitors have a great time.” So, we’ve set up grief and mental health counselors to help people who need it during this hard time.
The website for the event says that this year’s battle at Dickies Arena started on Thursday and ends on Sunday.
