A Woman is Killed in an Airport Baggage Belt Accident in Chicago

A woman died at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport after getting stuck in a moving belt in the baggage area.

A fire department spokesman, Larry Langford, told local media that the woman was “entangled in the conveyor belt system used to move baggage” in a private area of the airport.

The woman was 57 years old, but the police did not say her name.

Local news outlets were told by the US Department of Labor that the woman did not work at the airport.

Around 7:30 a.m. local time (01:30 a.m. BST), the Chicago Fire Department got a call about a woman who was pinned to luggage-moving machinery and not responding.
The woman was discovered in Terminal 5, which is where foreign flights arrive and depart.

Police say that around 2:30 a.m. local time, security video showed the woman walking into the restricted area that wasn’t occupied.

The area wasn’t thought to be very safe, so there wouldn’t have been a security breach there.

The cops in Chicago are looking into the death until the body can be formally examined.
