Seniors Who Are Having Trouble Paying Their Rent Also Have Few Options. Arizona’s Stock of Affordable Housing

More and more older people are having trouble paying their rent. And for many, it means the chance of being kicked out. About 8,000 evictions were brought to the attention of Maricopa County courts last month.

The Foundation for Senior Living (FSL) is run by Tami Bohannon, who is its president and CEO.

It has 24 affordable housing neighborhoods with a total of 998 units across Arizona. Over 1,000 older people have a place to stay every night.

This is what FSL has done for 30 years.

“And it’s become much harder for us to build a neighborhood with affordable housing.” “It’s been six years of trying to get the money together to build a house in Flagstaff, and we still haven’t done it,” Bohannon said. Bohannon says the project in Flagstaff will cost $32 million.

FSL does have another neighborhood of affordable housing in Flagstaff.

There are 15 years of age in Flagstaff Senior Meadows. “People have been waiting for that house for more than three years,” Bohannon said.

She says for now, “We’re putting together and testing a program to stop people from being evicted.”

FLS gets calls every day from seniors who are about to lose their homes.
