KANSAS CITY, Mo. — As some of the hottest temperatures of the summer hit Kansas City, a group that keeps an eye on power use sends out a warning.

Around 12:30 p.m. Monday, the Southwest Power Pool sent out a Level 1 Emergency Alert. The alert should stay in place until Tuesday at 8 p.m.

The power pool is a group of 14 states that work together to keep an eye on and balance the supply and demand of electricity. That area covers both Kansas and Missouri and goes from North Dakota to Texas.

This warning is sent out when all resources are likely to be used up and the power pool might not have enough power to meet the needs of the business.

So far, the Southwest Power Pool has said that it has enough power to meet demand and is not asking anyone to save energy.

The Southwest Power Pool said that it thinks usage will stay very high. There is a greater chance of power outages because the power grid is under a lot of stress.
