According to the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner, an Everett woman who had been put on Washington state’s Insurance Fraud Most Wanted list was arrested on September 6 after failing to appear for her arraignment in a false insurance claim case.

The King County Prosecutor’s Office accused Shawndlyn Williams, also known as Shawndlyn Dyson, of one count of submitting a fake insurance claim.

In 2022, a bench warrant was issued for her arrest after she failed to appear in court.

The allegations resulted from a 2019 event in which Williams claimed to have been wounded in a collision with a King County Metro bus and submitted a $19,684.20 claim for medical expenses, wage loss, and damages.

However, investigators discovered that Williams was not on the bus when the accident occurred, as evidenced by video footage from the Metro bus.

Her claim was refused, and Philadelphia Insurance reported the fraud to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner by the law.

After Williams failed to appear in court, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) contacted her and urged her to resolve the warrant, but she refused.

She was eventually arrested at her workplace and taken into the King County Jail.

The CIU examines insurance fraud cases and collaborates with law enforcement and prosecutors on criminal matters. Insurance fraud raises the average family’s insurance rates by an estimated $400 to $700 annually.
