Wheat Ridge police say no charges will be filed against the driver involved in a semi rollover crash last month in the Denver metro area, which killed three people and shut down Interstate 70 for nearly a day. It occurred on August 15.

The crash killed two Colorado newlyweds and the bride’s mother.

Wheat Ridge police said in a social media post on Wednesday that the semi driver was going 1 mph slower than the speed limit when the truck rolled over. They claimed the vehicle was 8,000 pounds under the maximum weight restriction and had more straps than necessary on the long blue pipes it was transporting. The pipes weighed about 500 pounds each.

Police say experts from the Jefferson County District Attorney’s office concluded that no crime was committed.

The married couple and their family were on their way to their honeymoon in the highlands when they were hit by the pipes, which had come loose from the truck and flowed into oncoming traffic.

Ruben Rodriguez Garcia, 32; Juliana Rodriguez Plata, 39; and Luz Melba Martinez, 60 were all dead. A 1-year-old boy, the couple’s child, sustained injuries. The bride’s father lived.
