A toy gun-wielding youngster was shot in Philadelphia on Sunday night after reportedly attempting to rob a guy carrying a loaded firearm.

Police claimed the 16-year-old and another suspect approached a guy and his girlfriend in the 2200 block of Emerald Street at 11 p.m. on Sunday, according to FOX 29 in Philadelphia.

One of the suspects allegedly shoved a firearm against the man’s back before demanding his keys, wallet, and other belongings.

According to authorities, the suspects were unaware that the man they were robbing was armed with a legal pistol, and he opened fire on the two suspects, injuring the 16-year-old in the leg.

A preliminary investigation determined that the teenager used a toy gun, which was discovered at the site.

“Having been pressed into the victim’s back, there would have been no way for them to know that,” Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace told the station.

Fox News Digital has contacted the Philadelphia Police Department for additional information on the matter.

According to the station, the victim was not hurt, but the adolescent who was shot in the leg was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment while in police custody.

Police are looking for the second suspect.
