HORRIFIC ABUSE: Man Forced Ex-wife to Stand on a Bucket With a Rope Around Her Neck While He Electrocuted Her
During his Michigan trial, a man pled no contest to torture charges after his ex-wife testified that he electrified her and forced her to stand atop a pail with a rope around her neck.
According to MLive/The Grand Rapids Press, Saul Lucio-Ipina, 30, entered the plea after the first day of his trial in Grand Rapids. Lucio-Ipina was charged in connection with two instances that occurred in the couple’s basement last year, according to MLive.
The woman, who has since divorced Lucio-Ipina, detailed to the jury the awful assault she endured at the hands of her spouse, according to an MLive courtroom report. According to reports, the first event took place in January 2023. Lucio-Ipina accused her of cheating and forced her to the basement, where he put a bucket on the floor and a rope dangling from a ceiling beam. He required her to stand on top of the bucket.
“And then he put the rope around my neck,” she allegedly stated.
She dropped off the bucket and hung in the air at one point before being pulled down by her husband. Then, around two months later, during another confrontation about infidelity, he dragged her down to the basement and forced her into a children’s swing suspended from the ceiling.
“He tied me up with rope and metal wire around my arms and through my back,” she allegedly said. “I couldn’t get up if I wanted to.”
The horrible abuse continued. She said that Lucio-Ipina electrocuted her after connecting jumper wires to the exposed line.
“Any time I answered a question or didn’t answer a question, he would zap me,” she told jurors.
Lucio-Ipina held her captive for five hours before becoming “tired” and freeing her, according to MLive. She reported the assault a couple of days later, and police arrested Lucio-Ipina.
Angela Curtis, Kent County Assistant Prosecutor, reportedly told jurors during her opening statement that the aforementioned instances were likely torture.
Curtis stated, “He intended to inflict as much pain and suffering as possible.”
By the end of the first day of opening remarks and testimony, Lucio-Ipina had seen enough. MLive stated that he pled no contest to two counts of torture and witness interference. A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but it is viewed as one during the Oct. 28 sentence hearing.
