Mom Sentenced for Child Neglect After Autistic Son Found With Broken Arm, Multiple Bruises
A Mishawaka mother will spend time in jail after pleading guilty to child maltreatment.
Amy Elizabeth Jackson, 23, was sentenced on Thursday to two years in the Department of Corrections, followed by one year of community corrections and two years of probation.
The judge described it as a tragic example of neglect because the kid had autism, was nonverbal, and couldn’t tell anyone that he was being assaulted by an adult male in the house.
Officials were initially summoned to inspect a 3-year-old child who had a broken arm and multiple bruises.
Jackson did not appear to be the perpetrator of the abuse but rather refused to intervene and warn authorities.
