Joliet Hit-and-run Leaves 56-year-old Bicyclist Dead – Suspect Vehicle Sought

A 56-year-old man died after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Joliet overnight, according to police.

Joliet police say officers responded to the 200 block of South Larkin Avenue just after 2:45 a.m. Sunday for a complaint of a hit-and-run involving a bicyclist.

When officers arrived, they discovered the 56-year-old male motionless and lying by a bicycle in the southbound lanes of S. Larkin Ave.

According to authorities, the man was spotted by a passing vehicle but did not witness the crime and contacted 911. The individual was brought to an area hospital by the Joliet Fire Department and pronounced deceased.

According to police, a preliminary investigation determined that the male bicyclist was struck by a car that fled the site following the collision. Police have yet to locate the suspect vehicle.

The road was stopped as investigators rebuilt the scene, and the crash is still under investigation. Anyone with camera footage or information on the crash can contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at 815-724-3110.
