SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE: 2025 COLA Increase of 2.5% Will Boost Payments for Retirees and Disabled Individuals
The Social Security Administration (SSA) will soon announce the 2025 COLA number. However, it is easy to estimate the sums that retirees, SSI, and SSDI beneficiaries will get in just a few months.
The payment amounts for these Social Security, SSDI, and SSI claimants might be boosted by approximately 2.5%. Even if you consider this a little COLA increase, it is far more than many prior cost-of-living adjustments. However, it is significantly lower than in 2023 at 8.7%.
Estimated Amounts Following the 2025 COLA For:
- SSI benefits (for disabled persons, blind people, and seniors 65 and older with a low income)
- SSDI (disability benefits).
Payment Type | Current Payment | Increase (%) | New Payment |
SSI Essential Persons | $472 | 2.50% | $483 |
SSI Individuals | $943 | 2.50% | $966 |
SSI Couples | $1,415 | 2.50% | $1,450 |
SSDI | $1,539 | 2.50% | $1,577 |
SSDI Spouses | $421 | 2.50% | $431 |
SSDI Children | $492 | 2.50% | $504 |
Expected Amounts After the 2025 COLA For:
- Social Security retirement benefits
Payment Type | Current Payment | Increase (%) | New Payment |
Retirement | $1,000 | 2.50% | $1,025 |
Retirement | $2,000 | 2.50% | $2,050 |
Retirement | $3,000 | 2.50% | $3,075 |
Retirement | $4,000 | 2.50% | $4,100 |
Retirement | $4,500 | 2.50% | $4,612 |
Do not be concerned if your Social Security, SSDI, or SSI payment is different than expected. The Senior Citizens League estimates that the COLA in 2025 will be around 2.5%.
That essentially means that for every $100 you receive from the Administration or the Federal Government, you receive an additional $2.50 per month. So, if your monthly payout was $100, following the 2.5% COLA in 2025, it would be $102.5.
