Man Charged With Second-degree Homicide for Accidentally Killing Roommate in Arizona
An Arizona man has been charged with second-degree homicide after police say he unintentionally shot his roommate while mistaking him for an intruder. The roommate later died in a neighboring hospital.
On October 6, just before 11 p.m., officers from the Lake Havasu Police Department responded to a shooting incident at a residence near Lake Havasu Avenue and Kiowa Boulevard.
Officers discovered a male with a gunshot wound to the chest and immediately began life-saving procedures, according to officials. Officials say the man died after being transferred to a local hospital.
The initial inquiry found that the homeowner mistook the man for an intruder and shot him. According to the authorities, the individual was a resident of the house rather than an intruder.
Justin Wilcox, 52, a Lake Havasu City resident, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and homicide, according to police. The victim’s identity has not been revealed pending notification of next of kin.
Wilcox is being held to a $500,000 cash-only bond.
