On Tuesday morning, a dog attacked and mauled a young girl who was only five years old. The animal caused her to sustain significant injuries.
Based on a report that a dog had bitten a child, first responders were dispatched to the 19000 block of East R.D. Mize Road at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a spokesperson for the Independence Fire Department.
Arriving at the site, first responders discovered the girl suffering from a severe laceration around her neck in addition to other injuries. The girl was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital for medical attention after being conveyed there.
The dog was confined to a kennel after the incident, and the animal control department of the city is currently in charge of the situation.
