1 Dead, 14 Injured in Halloween Party Shooting in Oklahoma City – Police Arrest Two Suspects
A horrific shooting at a Halloween party at an event center early Saturday killed one person and injured 14 others. The gunshot took at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday near Southwest 59th Street and Agnew Avenue. Police informed KOCO 5 that the shooting began with an altercation between two groups, and they suspect numerous shooters were involved.
“Several persons are detained. Capt. Valerie Littlejohn stated, “We’re going to interview them and figure out what caused this incident.”
Just before 4 p.m. Saturday, Littlejohn announced two arrests in connection with the shootings.
Police say they’re still speaking with anybody they can to determine out what happened.
“We still have a lot of witnesses to talk to and people to interview,” Mr. Littlejohn added. “We will review any documentation or phone videos these witnesses have. We’ll collaborate with our detectives to determine what happened both inside and outside the facility.
According to authorities, all 14 injured were sent to nearby hospitals, with at least two patients in critical condition following the incident. No information on the deceased has been published.
Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt addressed the shootings in a Facebook post-Saturday afternoon, stating that recent shootings had followed a familiar pattern of “young men (boys, really) making terrible decisions with grave consequences.”
Holt also stated that police enforcement must continue to receive funding and support, but that investing in the city’s young is critical.
“The most essential thing we can do at the local level to avoid these awful incidents is to continue investing in our youth. When we cut the ribbon on a new soccer field, we are not looking to produce the next Messi. We’re providing an outlet for young people, and research shows that young people who attend school and participate in extracurricular activities are significantly less likely to shoot each other at midnight,” Holt stated.
