Florida Man, 93, Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Kill Wife Twice Due to Fear of Leaving Her Alone
A 93-year-old Florida man was charged with attempting to murder his wife twice this month.
According to an arrest report acquired by NBC station WESH from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Helmut Lockner and his wife had been married for 60 years when the occurrences occurred.
Lockner’s wife told deputies that he regularly expressed agony and “wanted to die.” He was accused of attempting to smother her with a pillow, claiming he “did not want to leave the woman alone.”
According to the arrest report, two weeks later, Lockner stood up from his living room recliner, walked behind her, and attempted to strangle her with a rope. Deputies said the incident resulted in bruising and abrasions on her neck and chin.
Lockner’s wife exited the house and contacted 911 from a safe area. In an interview with deputies, Lockner reportedly stated that he intended to kill his wife before killing himself since he was dying and did not want her alone.
The 911 dispatcher reported hearing Lockner remark, “You can die with me,” according to the arrest report.
He was brought into Marion County Jail on two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
