Heavy Rain and Mild Temperatures Move Into Northeast, Southeast Faces Coastal Flooding Risk

0

A warm front is coming into the Northeast, bringing much milder weather with it. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into western New York and skirt the Pennsylvania border.

These will travel throughout the region, with the majority of the energy flowing far north of the major cities. Behind it, 70-degree temperatures will reign supreme for a few days before a much cooler weekend. We may also see some scattered but much-needed rain when the cooling process begins on Friday, ahead of our cold front.

As predicted, the Southeast is seeing showers and thunderstorms, which have been pushed back ashore by high pressure. Clouds, showers, and possibly some thunder rumbles are expected along the coasts of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia today and tomorrow. We may also witness higher tides and moderate coastal flooding as a result of the steady onshore flow pushing water into the rear bays.

Our primary concern is the severe weather potential in the Midwest tomorrow. Low pressure exiting the Rockies and interacting with warmer, more humid air will contribute to triggering some very heavy thunderstorms. Individual heavy showers and thunderstorms will gradually cluster and form a pretty organized line across Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

These will eventually find their way to Wisconsin, Missouri, and Arkansas. Depending on the outcome, powerful storms may extend into northeast Texas and upper Louisiana. Expect severe winds, huge hail, frequent lightning, heavy rain, and the possibility of a few tornadoes. The timing for this appears to be late tomorrow morning through Thursday morning, west to east.

Today’s forecast calls for clouds and sun, with a slight chance of a few showers ahead of our warm front. Today’s highs will reach the mid-60s.

Tomorrow will be sunny and moderate, with highs in the mid-70s across much of the region. Sunshine continues on Thursday, with temperatures ranging from 75 to 80 degrees.

On Friday, clouds will drift in ahead of the next cold front, bringing a minor chance of showers. Friday’s highs will be in the near 70/low 70 area, with temperatures dropping to near 60 with sunshine on Saturday.
