Iowa Man Charged With Murder of Ex-girlfriend’s Mother, Critical Injuring of Father During Moving Day
A 24-year-old guy has been arrested for reportedly killing his ex-girlfriend’s mother and badly injuring her father while assisting her in moving out following a split.
Hamza Smajlovic of Iowa was arrested on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon. Smajlovic is suspected of killing 45-year-old Ruth Sue Ann Robison and injuring her husband, Tony Ray Robison.
Smajlovic allegedly opened fire while his ex-girlfriend was being assisted by her parents in moving out of the house where she lived with Smajlovic. When Polk County Sheriff’s officers arrived, they found Ruth and Tony with gunshot wounds.
The victims were transported to the hospital, where Ruth was declared dead. Her husband is still hospitalized in critical condition.
Ruth was struck once in the head with a 9mm pistol. Smajlovic allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend’s father in the skull. He is claimed to have lingered on the site after allegedly carrying out the shooting.
Smajlovic’s ex-girlfriend was also in the house when the shooting occurred. Police stated that the woman was not physically wounded in the incident.
A lawsuit alleged that: “The defendant did knowingly, intentionally and willingly fire a live 9 mm round into an occupied residence at the victim, while in the commission of a murder and attempted murder of two other victims in the home at the time of the shooting.”
A GoFundMe campaign has also been created to help Ruth’s family. The organizer wrote: “After the unfortunate events of Friday, November 1, we are all devastated by Ruth Robison’s death and Tony Robison’s hospitalization.
Due to the circumstances, the family was unprepared for the enormous cost of Ruth’s funeral ceremony and Tony’s medical costs. We want to assist their family in giving Ruth the monument she deserves and honoring her legacy.”
The group’s leader continued, “Additionally, we want to help out with Tony’s hospital expenses and the family’s day-to-day living expenses while they navigate this difficult time.”
Smajlovic was brought to Polk County Jail, where he is currently held without bond. The preliminary hearing is planned for November 12.
