51-year-old Woman Dies in Vegas Crash, DUI Charges for 29-year-old Driver
LAS VEGAS – Following an accident in southwest Las Vegas on Wednesday evening, one woman died and another is facing DUI charges.
The collision occurred around 5:45 p.m. on South Hualapai Way, north of West Flamingo Road, involving two automobiles.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, a 51-year-old woman driving a Toyota Prius entered a private drive on Hualapai and went north before making a U-turn into southbound Hualapai, where her vehicle was struck by a woman driving a Buick Encore, causing the Buick to overturn.
Police said both women were taken to UMC’s Trauma Unit, but the 51-year-old lady died shortly after arrival. The other motorist, 29-year-old Michelle Cardenas of Huntington Park, California, displayed indications of impairment and was arrested at UMC.
According to Clark County Detention Center records, Cardenas is charged with DUI and dangerous driving that resulted in death. She has an initial court appearance scheduled for Thursday, November 7.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will announce the identification of the deceased woman. Metro claimed she was the 134th traffic fatality in its jurisdiction in 2024.
