Berkeley County Deputy Dies in Early Morning Hit-and-run, Leaving Pregnant Wife and Children
A South Carolina jail deputy was murdered in a hit-and-run accident on November 4.
Police said the accident occurred around 4:50 a.m. when Jessica Goodwin, driving a 2011 Toyota sedan, collided with Sgt. Devon Lindsay, driving a 2022 motorcycle.
Lindsay died as a result of the collision, and Goodwin fled the scene, authorities said.
Goodwin, 30, was later caught on a hit-and-run charge after leaving the scene of a fatal incident. “This unfortunate accident was preventable and we are mourning the loss of our co-worker.” Sheriff Duane Lewis explained. “We ask the community to please keep his family in their prayers as he leaves behind a wife and small children.”
Lindsay leaves behind his pregnant wife, Jazmine, and their three other children.
Lindsay has worked with the Berkley County Sheriff’s Office since 2019.
