A two-vehicle crash resulting in a ruptured gas line injured two individuals and forced the evacuation of a residence on Sunday, according to Colorado Springs police.

According to a police blotter note, the crash occurred around 2:50 a.m. near the Fountain Boulevard and Circle Drive intersection on the city’s east side.

Both drivers were transported to local hospitals and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators concluded that a car driving north on Circle “at a high rate of speed” blew the red light at Fountain, colliding with a westbound vehicle before jumping a curb, hitting a fence, and breaking a gas line, according to police.

Due to the gas leak, emergency services evacuated a home on Carlsbad Drive, northwest of the intersection. The Colorado Springs Fire Department and Utilities personnel were able to halt the leak and fix the damage, officials said.

Chase Jones, who is suspected of running a red light, was cited for multiple traffic violations and released, according to police. Alcohol did not appear to be a contributing role in the crash.
