For your information, the Administration needs to reschedule payments from time to time. This often happens when the SSI payment is due on a Federal Holiday or the weekend. So, no payments can be sent on Saturdays, Sundays, or Federal holidays.
No SSI payment on January 1, 2025
The Social Security Administration will issue the January 1 payment for the Supplemental Security Income program on December 31, 2024. Hence, this check and direct deposit will bring the 2.5% COLA increase, but in 2024.
So, all eligible married couples on SSI will get their payment from the Federal Government in about 22 days. This is important to know when you have your cash in order to prepare your monthly budget for the new year.
It is true that individuals and essential persons will also receive their January payment on December 31, 2024. However, they will not qualify for such a large payment.
Who will receive $1,450 from the SSI program on December 31?
This is for those married couples who both qualify and get no reductions from Social Security. For example, if you have no savings, no money on hand and no earnings, you may both qualify for a payment of up to $1,450.
Double Payments in 2025: SSI Recipients And the Months with Two Payment Dates
Those seniors or SSDI recipients who have a Social Security payment simultaneously, may not qualify for the full amount. This will be the first time couples can get $1,450.
Thanks to the cost-of-living adjustment, all recipients will get 2.5% extra from December 31, 2024. The new monthly payment for individuals will be up to $967 (943 dollars in 2024) and for an essential person up to $484 ($472 in 2024).
