Today, U.S. Senators Maggie Hassan and Jeanne Shaheen and Representatives Annie Kuster and Chris Pappas revealed that the federal government will give $27,492,000 to the Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority. It will be used to fix up the tracks on Amtrak’s Downeaster line, which goes through Exeter, Durham, and Dover.
The money comes from the joint infrastructure law that Hassan and Shaheen worked out. It is the biggest investment ever made in public transit. Senator Hassan was part of the group of both Democrats and Republicans who worked out the details of the bipartisan infrastructure law’s funds for transit.
Hassan said, “We worked together across the aisle to negotiate and pass the bipartisan infrastructure law that gives New Hampshire the big money it needs to update and strengthen all of our infrastructure.” “I’m glad that New Hampshire has received more money to improve its rail service.
This gives Granite Staters more ways to get around, attracts more tourists, and lowers pollution.” I’m excited to see how the infrastructure investments made possible by the bipartisan infrastructure law continue to help our neighborhoods and make our economy stronger.
“Investing in infrastructure projects that improve Granite State’s transportation systems, especially our railways, is essential for boosting growth and development across the state,” Shaheen said. “These federal funds will help make important safety and service improvements, which will make New Hampshire’s passenger rail services better for years to come.”
“Investing in our passenger rail infrastructure is a smart way to make New Hampshire and the region more competitive in the job market,” Kuster said. “These federal funds for the Downeaster Corridor Track Improvement Project will help make service more reliable, make it safer, and cut down on travel times.”
