Jeff Surgent, from Cape May County, has been charged with first-degree murder after the body of his 74-year-old mother was found in his home. Surgent is said to have called the Ocean City Police Department to report the murder, saying he killed his mother because he has a mental illness.
The cops found Surgent at home with the body of his mother, but they didn’t say how she was killed. Surgent was caught and is being held at a secure medical center. He is also being charged with third- and fourth-degree gun crimes.
The Major Crimes Unit of the county, the police in Ocean City, and the New Jersey Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office are all looking into the case.
