Two Suspects Arrested After Police Chase, Alleged Collision, and Theft from Tops
(CNS) — Buffalo, New York
A guy from Niagara Falls is facing numerous charges following an incident on Thursday morning. He is accused of trying to shoplift more than $1,000 worth of products from Tops Friendly Markets, which led to a car chase and a collision with a police vehicle.
Orchard Park Police said that 67-year-old Jacob Bell tried to take more than $1,100 worth of steaks, crabs, and beer from the Tops on Southwestern Blvd.
After a store clerk approached Bell, the 32-year-old Cheektowaga resident jumped out of the grocery cart and into a waiting vehicle, according to officials.
Afterwards, Bell allegedly tried to evade the police by smashing into a marked patrol car and then drove across a grass before leaving the scene of the accident.
The car was spotted on Route 219 by three officers. Near the Berg Road overpass, Bell reportedly lost control of his vehicle while evading yet another traffic stop, according to the police. Allegedly, he ran into a guardrail and tried to get away again, but his car got stuck.
According to the police, Bell was taken into jail after being forcibly removed from the vehicle due to his refusal to disembark. Ballard agreed to help.
The following were the charges against Bell:
DWI drugs
Grand larceny (4th degree)
Evading capture
Daring motorists
Leaving the accident site
Criminal damage in the fourth degree
Interfering with the operation of a government agency
Blocking the arrest
Quite a few moving offenses
Sixth-degree conspiracy charges have been filed against Ballard.
Although Ballard was freed on an appearance ticket, Bell remains in custody for arraignment.
