North Texas Mom Seeks Justice After Son’s Death in Tragic Scooter Accident

0

East Dallas, TX – A year and a half after the heartbreaking loss of her 9-year-old son, Jamie Abercrombie continues her painful search for justice.

The devastating accident, which occurred while her son Max was simply riding his scooter near his grandmother’s house, has left a lasting void in the family’s life.

On a day that began like any other, Max’s scooter ride ended in tragedy at the intersection of Materhorn Drive and San Paula Avenue. The driver of a pickup truck struck the young boy, and although rushed to the hospital, Max did not survive.

The Tragic Scooter Accident That Changed Everything

Jamie recounted the horrifying moment she saw her son riding along the sidewalk before chaos ensued. “I saw my baby riding on the sidewalk and next thing I know I look up and everybody was screaming and running towards him,” she said. She was first to reach Max and immediately began CPR, noticing he had a pulse but was unconscious. Despite efforts, Max passed away at the hospital, leaving his family shattered.

Driver’s Response and Legal Concerns

While the driver involved in the crash returned to the scene twice, he never stopped to help or provided identification.

Jamie expressed frustration, stating, “From what I heard, it was a questioning at the scene and then he got to go home.”

Attorney Andrew Howard weighed in on the situation, highlighting the severity of the driver’s actions:

This is a potential manslaughter, certainly a hit-and-run, and on and on. In similar Dallas-area crashes, drivers were arrested swiftly.”

  • The alleged crimes include hit-and-run and possible manslaughter charges.
  • Drivers in comparable cases have faced prompt arrests.
  • The community is calling for stronger legal accountability.

Dallas Police Stand by Investigation and Protocol

In response to inquiries, the Dallas Police Department stated that, “The standard protocol was followed by the officers and investigators. The driver returned to the scene, in compliance with the law regarding an involvement in a crash. The investigation determined that no offense occurred.” This official stance has left Jamie and her family feeling the justice system has fallen short.
