The first accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday on state Route 79 in Julian. 46-year-old Alfredo Trevino of Vista was riding a 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound with a 40-year-old female passenger when he lost control of the vehicle. The motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic near Harrison Oak Lake Lane and collided with a 2021 Toyota 4Runner traveling in the opposite direction.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that Trevino died instantly at the scene due to the severe impact. The female passenger was transported by paramedics to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of severe injuries. The driver of the Toyota, a 29-year-old woman from Julian, along with her 56-year-old passenger, suffered minor injuries.
CHP public-affairs Officer Jasmine Lopez stated, “The female passenger suffered severe injuries and was taken for immediate medical care, while the SUV occupants sustained minor injuries.”
Labor Day Pileup Claims Life of Santee Resident
On Labor Day, September 1, another fatal incident occurred in Santee involving a multi-vehicle collision and subsequent impact with a utility pole on the 8900 block of Carlton Hills Boulevard around 11 a.m. Curtis Van Atta Jr., 50, a local resident, was driving a sedan at the time of the pileup.
Paramedics transported Van Atta to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, where he was pronounced dead two days later due to the sustained injuries.
