Maná, a famous Mexican pop-rock band, said that some of the money from their shows in Los Angeles would be given to help Latino street vendors. There are more concert dates for Maná in Los Angeles. The video in the player above is from an earlier report.
The gift will go to the L.A. Street Vendor Campaign and the Community Power Collective. It will also be used as seed money to buy street vendor carts that have been approved by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. It wasn’t clear right away how much money would be given or how many carts would be bought.
Maná’s lead singer, Fher Olvera, said, “No matter where we go, we will continue to support our people and their dreams.” “We are proud to support street vendors in Los Angeles by helping with the development of these carts that we hope will allow them to work, share our culture, and support their families with dignity and without fear of being criminalized.”

An important artist and organizer from Los Angeles named Ernesto Yerena worked with Maná as well. Yerena made a screen print with the band’s picture that is only available in small numbers. The Los Angeles Street Vendor Campaign and the Community Power Collective will also get money from the sale of the screen print.
A group of women in Boyle Heights began protesting the harassment of street vendors in 2008, which was the start of the effort to make selling things on the street legal. Ten years later, after many protests and city council meetings, both the state and the city made it legal to sell things on the street. In 2020, Los Angeles gave out its first vending pass.

The Department of Public Works says that even though the program for street vendors has been going for years, only 204 of the roughly 10,000 vendors who work on Los Angeles sidewalks have been given licenses. Maná will play at the Kia Forum in Inglewood on November 24 and 25 as part of their unique residency. This is the first time a band of this size has played at a Los Angeles venue.
