Apple Warns Over 100 California Workers: Move to Texas or Quit!
CNS News–In a significant corporate move, Apple Inc. has issued an ultimatum to 121 of its San Diego-based employees: relocate to Austin, Texas, or face termination. This directive marks a departure from initial plans, which involved moving these employees to another Apple campus within San Diego.
The affected team, primarily responsible for analyzing and improving Siri’s responses in various languages, faces a critical decision by the end of February, with termination scheduled for April 26 for those who choose not to relocate. Most members of the Data Operations Annotations team are already based in Austin.
This relocation aligns with a broader trend of tech employees moving from California to Texas. However, it occurs amidst growing concerns over the Austin tech scene, where the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas noted an increase in mass layoffs in 2023, attributed to post-pandemic high-tech downsizing.
Apple, which has largely avoided layoffs in recent years, may see a significant employee departure due to this move. The company has offered severance packages, including four weeks of pay plus an additional week for each year of service and six months of health insurance.
