The individuals facing charges are the child’s stepmother, Natiela Barros, 34, and her biological father, Cledir Mendes Barros, 37. Details from the arrest warrant reveal a harrowing account of the events leading to the young girl’s death.
Natiela Barros is accused of striking the victim between 10 to 20 times with the wooden rolling pin. Following the assault, the refusal to procure medical attention for the child directly contributed to the tragic outcome. In response to the situation, Natiela Barros contacted her husband, who upon returning home and finding his daughter unresponsive, attempted life-saving measures and dialed 911.

The assault was not limited to a singular method or location on the child’s body; it included various parts, notably the “top back of her neck”. The severity of the charges against Natiela Barros was reflected in her court appearance before a Gwinnett County judge.
She faces charges of felony and malice murder, aggravated assault, and first-degree cruelty to children.
