A spokesperson from the White House Counsel’s Office, Ian Sams, expressed frustration regarding the negative media coverage surrounding President Biden. The coverage in question raised concerns about his mental sharpness and ability to fulfill his role as president.

In a letter sent to the White House Correspondents’ Association on Tuesday, as reported by CNN, Sams expressed the difficulties of covering the report due to its extensive length of nearly 400 pages and its complex nature.

Sams also criticized Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report, stating that the personal comments made about Biden were inappropriate and detracted from the focus on the substance of the report.

However, Sams honed in on the critical media attention surrounding Biden’s mental acuity following the publication of Hur’s letter. Shortly after Biden delivered a press conference in response to Hur’s report, The New York Times, Axios, and other prominent liberal outlets characterized the event as a “disaster” and a significant setback in terms of public relations.

The spokesperson alleged that certain media outlets have presented inaccurate information, resulting in a distorted representation of Hur’s findings.

“However, it is crucial to emphasize the significance of thorough and diligent reporting,” he expressed. “Instead, numerous media organizations have highlighted significant inaccuracies that distort the report’s findings regarding the President. Additionally, journalists in the White House Briefing Room have posed questions that contain false information or are founded on false assumptions.”

In his letter, Sams provided various instances of news headlines and stories that he believed inaccurately stated that the report concluded the resident intentionally kept and shared classified information.

WASHINGTON, DC – FEBRUARY 13: U.S. President Joe Biden speaks on the Senate’s recent passage of the National Security Supplemental Bill, which provides military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, in the State Dining Room of the White House on February 13, 2024 in Washington, DC. During his remarks Biden urged House Republicans and U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) to move the legislation through the House of Representatives.

In the executive summary, Hur stated that his investigation revealed evidence suggesting that President Biden knowingly held and shared classified materials following his vice presidency, during his time as a private citizen.

A recent CNN article highlighted the efforts of White House officials to challenge media narratives surrounding the report. According to the article, there have been ongoing discussions and disagreements between White House officials, the president’s personal counsel, and reporters regarding their coverage, although progress has been limited.

Biden, at 81 years old, holds the distinction of being the oldest president in American history. However, recent polls indicate growing public apprehension regarding his ability to effectively carry out his duties. The fact that a press conference was quickly organized on the same night that Hur’s report was made public highlights the White House’s concern about its consequences.
