Tucker Carlson has addressed criticism about his interview with Vladimir Putin by stating that ‘leadership involves making tough decisions’. The ex-Fox News host spoke with the Russian president on February 6.

However, the interview received criticism for being ‘soft,’ with Vladimir Putin expressing his disappointment in Mr. Carlson’s questions.

Shortly before the news broke that Russian opposition leader Aleksey Navalny had passed away, Mr. Carlson stood by his interview.

He was interviewed by Egyptian journalist Emad El Din Adeeb at the World Government Summit in Dubai on Monday, February 12.

Mr Adeeb expressed the importance of taking on different roles during an interview and mastering your business.

It’s not my place to lecture you on this, but it might be beneficial to question certain ideas.

For example, the discussion did not cover freedom of speech in Russia, Alexei Navalny, assassinations, or restrictions on opposition in the upcoming elections.

In this pool photograph distributed by Russian state agency Sputnik, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin gives an interview to US talk show host Tucker Carlson at the Kremlin in Moscow on February 6, 2024.

Mr Carlson responded by stating, “I didn’t discuss the topics that are commonly covered by other American media organizations.”

‘Because those are covered and because I have spent my life talking to people who run countries in various countries and have concluded the following: that every leader kills people, including my leader.’

Every leader has caused harm, with some causing more harm than others. Being in charge involves making tough decisions that can have serious consequences, which is why I have no interest in taking on a leadership role.

‘The press restriction is widespread in the United States, and I can attest to this from personal experience.‘ Ask my previous employers – I’ve had numerous positions.

I have 34 years of experience in this field and I am well aware of how things operate. There is a significant amount of censorship in both Russia and the United States, with the latter also facing its fair share.

At a certain point, individuals can choose which countries and systems they believe are superior. I simply want to understand his perspective, as that was the main goal.’

In a recent video, Mr. Carlson expressed admiration for Russia’s affordable grocery store prices and high-quality produce.

The outspoken individual pushed a shopping cart through a Russian superstore, admiring the products as part of his recent tour promoting Putin.

In a video shared on his social media platforms, Carlson, 54, excitedly exclaimed, ‘Look at that!’ as he sniffed a loaf of bread with cheerful music in the background.

The ex-host expressed that he shifted from finding it amusing to feeling genuinely angry about his home country’s seemingly higher prices for essentials such as food.

Many online users mocked the video, highlighting the significant difference between the average wages in Russia and the United States.

While interviewing Putin, Mr. Carlson continuously praised Russia, even going as far as to say that Moscow is ‘so much nicer than any city in my country.’
