A 75-year-old Man Who Had Been Lost for Four Days Was Found Alive in a Bog in Maine by a K-9
Maine police say a game warden and his K-9 found a 75-year-old man who had been lost for four days after falling off a ledge. He was found in a bog.
Michael Altmaier from New Sharon, Maine, had not been seen since Monday when he went for a meeting in Weld, a small town in the southwest of the state. The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said on social media that they had not seen him since then. Soon after, park workers found his car at the Mount Blue State Park Scenic Overlook in Weld.
Altmaier was first looked for by the Maine Warden Service on Friday morning. At 3:45 p.m. local time, Game Warden Kayle Hamilton and a K-9 named Ash found him in a bog about 3/4 of a mile from where his car was found.
“It is believed Altmaier had fallen over a ledged embankment Monday and likely became disoriented,” people said.
Officials say that game wardens, search workers, and a paramedic were able to find Altmaier and give him first aid and an evaluation before an ambulance arrived from the Maine Forest Service helicopter. Altmaier was taken to a nearby hospital and stayed there the night.
Rescue workers said Altmaier “was in surprisingly good condition despite spending the last four days laying in the area of the bog,” but the hospital hasn’t said anything new about his health yet.
