A California Parolee is Accused of Killing a Walmart Worker With a Knife in a Random Attack
Authorities say that a California parolee who got out of jail earlier this year killed a Walmart worker with a knife on Monday.
After the murder for no reason, Lonnie Hinton, 29, turned himself in to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
“This appears to be a random event, and there was no interaction between the suspect and the victim before the assault,” the police said.
Around 7 a.m., deputies from Lake Elsinore, which is 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles, were called to the Walmart because of reports of a violent attack.
The sheriff’s department said that when police arrived, they found Jessica Morales, 65, from nearby Menifee, with several stab wounds. Morales was taken to the hospital, but he died there.
“She was a great person.” A great friend. Someone who worked with Morales but didn’t want to be named told Fox Los Angeles, “Everyone loved her.” Someone else at work said Morales had been with Walmart for over 25 years.
Later that same day, Hinton turned himself in at the Lake Elsinore sheriff’s office. He was taken to the Cois Byrd Detention Center after being arrested on murder charges.
Hinton got out of state jail earlier this year. He was in jail for robbing someone. At the time of the killing, he was out on parole.
No reason for the killing was given. Walmart said it was “heartbroken” to hear about Morales’ death.
“The store will be closed while we work with the police on their investigation,” the store chain said. “We offer our condolences and support to the family during this difficult time and will continue working with our associates, providing support as needed.”
